LF Sportswear heads to Flatiron

Women's clothing manufacturer LF Sportswear is switching from wholesaler to retailer - and to try to build the new brand faster, is building stores in trendy Manhattan shopping neighborhoods. The 2,580-square-foot Flatiron district shop in the pink granite building at 150 Fifth Ave. at W. 20th Street will be called LF Stores. It will be stocked with fashion-forward clothes made by LF - and new European and American designers.

LF Sportswear owner Laurie Furst picked out the store site after walking neighborhood streets last winter. Though it was the coldest day of the year, "I saw our profile customer out there shopping," he said."What excited us most is this is a new tenant to the market - a new concept, but not a new company," said Andrew Goldberg of CB Richard Ellis, the landlord's agent with Eric Gelber and Loren Baron. Brokerage Douglas Elliman represented LF.

Manhattan's first LF Stores unit opened last month in SoHo.
